Egg Recall! WATCH OUT for Salmonella!

FresnoBee.com reports that a massive egg recall is taking place after around 200 cases of salmonella-related illnesses were reported weekly, during the months of June and July, to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Illnesses were reported in California, Colorado, and Minnesota. The California Department of Public Safety is now warning people to look out for Wright County Egg products.

Salmonella is a genus of rod-shaped, Gram-negative, non-spore forming, predominantly motile enterobacteria. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, which usually does not require antibiotic treatment. At risk are infants, small children, the elderly, HIV patients and those with suppressed immunity. These patients can become seriously ill.

Wright County Egg products are packaged under multiple names including, Albertson, Boomsma’s, Dutch Farms and Kemps, Farm Fresh, Hillandale, Lucerne, Lund, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Shoreland, Sunshine, and Trafficanda. The plant which makes the eggs is based out of Galta, Iowa. Currently, the FDA is inspecting the barns of the plant.

If you suspect that you may be carrying contaminated eggs, you are asked to return them to the store you purchased them from, for a refund. Some common symptoms of salmonella include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. The Illness can be life-threatening, in some cases (Mayoclinic).

Woman squeezing spot

Awhile back, AcneTeen.org’s post: Accutane Side Effects, reported some of the major side effects associated with accutane. Suicide is amongst one of those side effects.

In recent studies though, The American Journal of Gastroenterology has said that taking accutane may increase the risk of certain kinds of serious inflammatory bowel diseases. We first stumbled upon this information at Drug Watch: Accutane and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Concerns Continue to Increase.

After looking through thousands of patients who had previously taken accutane, researchers discovered that the patients chances of developing ulcerative colitis nearly quadrupled.

Since 1980, when accutane was introduced, it has been prescribed 16 million patients, plus. Although accutane was originally used in treating severe acne cases, it has been used in treating more mild cases as well. Accutane was taken off the US shelves, last summer, but generic versions such as Amnesteem and Claravis are still available.

Other reported side effects of accutane include extreme skin dryness, skin aging, hair loss, depression, and if you skimmed through this article and missed the news, suicide.
