Calvin Johnson Catch Ruled Incomplete: See Why! VIDEO! PHOTO!

With 24 seconds to go in the Chicago Bears – Detroit Lions game, Lion’s WR, Calvin Johnson pulled down a deep pass into the end zone, for what looked to be a touchdown. Johnson caught the ball, got his two feet in bounds, but after going to the ground, and after having control of the ball the entire time, the ground forced the ball out of his hands. The ruling; Incomplete. Many fans are absolutely outraged with the call, but rules are rules, and the correct call was made. Tip: See video on Youtube.

According to a Fox video, Rule 8 Section 1 Article 4 Item 1 states that a player must physically catch the ball, and hold onto the ball, until the play is over, for the ball to be considered a catch. Clearly, Johnson dropped the ball, after the ‘catch’ was made. Now, many will argue that the play is over when the initial catch was made, and the feet were placed on the ground, for a would-be touchdown. Problem is, the definition of the play being over isn’t clearly stated, which is why many people are upset with the call.

When it all comes down to it, Rule 8 Section 1 Article 4 Item 1 is clearly laid out. Whether you agree with the rule or not, is a different situation. I for one, believe that the rule was created to bypass a referee from deciding whether or not the ball was in the players control long enough to be ruled a catch. Fact of the matter is, you don’t want games being determined by referees, you want them being determined by players, and I believe this rule was created to do just that. By the way, the Bears beat the Lions 19 – 14.

Inez Sainz Pictures: Harrassed by Jet’s Players?

Inez Sainz is said to be one of the hottest reporters in Mexico, and it seems that selective players for the New York Jet’s NFL football team would have to agree. Recently, Sainz took a visit to one of the Jet’s practices for an interview with their Quarterback, Mark Sanchez.

According to College News, Sainz waited on the sidelines, while the players practiced. During the practice, it’s said that many passes were purposely thrown in Sainz’s direction. Later, in the locker room, Sainz claims to have been harassed with suggestive comments, by unnamed Jet’s players.

Recently, Sainz posted this comment on here Twitter account, “Thanks everyone for your support. I already spoke to the NFL, which will decide if there will or will not be consequences. I can say that at the time I didn’t want to pay attention to what was happening but the rest of the media heard clearly and in solidarity have denounced what happened, hoping that there is always a respectful climate.” The NFL is currently looking into the issue.

In the video, (it seems to be a 3rd down play), when Brandon Jacobs (running back for the Giants) accidentally knocked Manning’s helmet loose. Manning was then hit from behind by Calvin Pace (Jets). Then Manning was hit again from the front by another Jets player. Closeup replays suggest that the glove of the player scrapped against Manning’s face, causing it to bleed. After being hit, Manning almost instantly covered the cut. He then ran to the sidelines where a trainer covered his cut with a towel.

Manning was removed from the game, and the Giants settled for a field goal. It was later stated that Manning had to get the cut stitched up. Giants ended up beating the Jets 31 to 16, scoring 14 points in the 4th quarter.

College Football Preseason Coaches’ Poll Rankings: TOP 24!

TUSCALOOSA, AL - APRIL 17: One of the 96,000 Alabama Crimson Tide fans that attended the Alabama spring football game at Bryant Denny Stadium on April 17, 2010 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. (Photo by Dave Martin/Getty Images)

The College Football season is just around the corner and the preseason coaches’ poll has been released. I wasn’t able to find a list of the team ratings, but I was able to compile some information from the Huffington Post.

Alabama sits in the #1 spot. Ohio State ranks #2. Florida #3. Texas #4. Boise State #5. Virginia Tech #6. TCU #7. Oklahoma #8. Nebraska #9. Iowa #10. Oregon, Wisconsin, Miami, Penn State and Pittsburgh rank #11 – #15. LSU, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Arkansas and Florida State, rank #16 – #20. Georgia #21. Oregon State #22. Auburn #23. Utah #24 (Huffington Post).

As an Oregon State fan, it’s nice to finally see the team rank in the top 24. Usually, the Beavers rank 25 – 35, or at least, it’s seemed that way the past few years. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m looking forward to the up and coming college football season. I will be heading to 2 games myself.

But, as the poll sits, many people are throwing up their red flags. What do you think about this year’s rankings? Obviously, everyone has their opinion, and as some people can totally agree with the poll, others will pick at it until the up and coming season begins. As always, I’d imagine to be hearing a lot of “told-you-so’s” this season. What do you think? Do you see any major problems in the poll?

Jack Tatum aka “The Assassin,” Dies at 61.

Pro Bowl safety, Jack Tatum aka “The Assassin,” who was known for his hard-hitting abilities as an Oakland Raider’s safety, has died at the age of 61. Tatum died Tuesday, after having a heart attack.

In recent years, Tatum had been battling with diabetes and even had 2 of his legs amputated because of the disease.

Tatum is probably best known for his hit on wide receiver, Darryl Stingley, which left Stingley paralyzed form the neck down. Although the preseason hard hit didn’t leave any official penalty towards Tatum, reports note that he was saddened by the incident. Reports even note that Tatum attempted to visit Stingley, who died in 2007, while he was in the hospital. However, Tatum was denied visitation by Stingley’s family.

Although Tatum has left this world, he has left behind his legacy as a hard hitter, in the NFL. On a top list of feared tacklers on NFL.com, Tatum received the number 6 spot. The video clip from that show can be seen here.

If you’re interested in learning more about Tatum, he wrote an autobiography “They Still Call Me Assassin
” If you’re looking for more video clips, I highly recommend looking into Youtube for some of Tatum’s hardest hits.

Utah Utes Join Pac 10 Conference

LAS VEGAS - MARCH 11: The Utah Utes mascot Swoop performs during a quarterfinal game against the UNLV Rebels at the Conoco Mountain West Conference Basketball tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center March 11, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. UNLV won 73-61. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Although the Pac 10’s goals to form a “Super Conference” were officially trumped only a few days ago, ESPN is reporting that Utah has joined the conference as the 12th team. The University of Colorado joined the Pac 10 conference last week.

Movement throughout the NCAA has been going on over the past few weeks. Originally, the Pac 10 was looking to convince 5 out of the 12 Big 12 teams to join them, and form a super conference. To do this, the Pac 10 needed to convince Texas into joining the conference. In the midst of the chess match, the Big 12 convinced Texas to stay put, by offering them a whopping $22 million annually, from the league’s new TV contract. The contract will also allow Texas to form their own network, which would add another $3 – $4 million to the deal. Had the deal gone through, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State would’ve also likely joined the Pac 10 conference.

Although the Pac 10 has failed to turn into a super conference, at least for now, commissioner Larry Scott is happy to have had Colorado and Utah join the conference:

“The addition of the University of Utah as the Conference’s 12th member continues to strengthen the Pac-10’s goals of becoming the country’s leader in college athletics.” Larry continued, “The University of Utah is a great academic and athletic fit, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Pac-10.” [ESPN]

There’s definitely no doubt that Utah is fit for the Pac 10. Back in 2008, Utah went on to beat the Oregon State Beavers, who later went on to win an ugly Sun Bowl game, with a score of 3 – 0. That same year, Utah went on to beat Alabama in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

A few days ago, we discussed what the addition of Utah would mean for the Pac 10 conference.

“If the PAC 10 gets Utah to come the conference, the Pac 10 would likely be split into two divisions. There would be six teams in each division. Each team would play all the teams in their division, as well as three out of division games. After all is said and done the top team out of each division would play a conference championship game for the PAC 10 title. The winner of that game would then play in the Rose Bowl or a BCS bowl game if they do good enough to have a BCS bowl game bid.”

Colorado and Utah will begin their Pac 10 season in the August, 2011.

PAC 10 Expansion Trumped!

March 11, 2010 Los Angeles, CA..The Oregon State Mascot performs in action during the College Basketball game against Washington in the Pac-10 Tournament at Staples Center on March 11, 2010 in Los Angeles, California..Washington defeats Oregon State 59-52.Louis Lopez/CSM.

The PAC  10 hopes to form a super conference were trumped today, by what is left of the big 12.  The big 12 offered more funding to the rest of their schools as a  way to keep the conference intact. That is just one of the deals they laid on the table, and it was just enough to convince the five Big 12 teams to stay put. Originally, the Pac 10 was looking to form a super conference with the current 10 teams, Colorado, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.

The Big 12 reportedly offered the the Texas Long  Horns  ”$22 million annually from the league’s new TV contract and will be allowed to form their own network, which would add another $3 million to $4 million annually to their coffers”. With these incentives the Texas Long Horn’s decided to stay with the conference, and with that, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State decided to stay with the conference as well.

So what does this mean for the PAC 10? The PAC 10 will no longer be able to become a super conference, but they will now look into adding Utah.  If the PAC 10 gets Utah to come the conference, the Pac 10 would likely be split into two divisions. There would be six teams in each division. Each team would play all the teams in their division, as well as three out of division games. After all is said and done the top team out of each division would play a conference championship game for the PAC 10 title.  The winner of that game would then play in the Rose Bowl or a BCS bowl game if they do good enough to have a BCS bowl game bid.

PAC 10 Turning to PAC 16?

BOULDER, CO - JUNE 11: University of Colorado Athletic Director Mike Bohn (L) speaks with PAC-10 Commissioner Larry Scott during a press conference at Folsom Stadium on June 11, 2010 in Boulder, Colorado. The University of Colorado Board of Regents voted unanimously to accept an invitation to join the PAC-10 Conference during a public meeting prior to the press conference. (Photo by Marc Piscotty/Getty Images)

The PAC 10 has gotten the approval to expand the conference.

The goal of this conference expansion is to create a 16 team super conference. This would include all the original PAC 10 teams plus six new teams from the big 12. So far, the PAC 10 conference has officially added Colorado university.

Other teams that may join the Pac 10 include Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.

Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have said they will join the PAC 10 conference as soon as the PAC 10 sends them a formal invitation to join. As for Texas A&M, they are still on the fence on whether to go to the PAC 10 or go to the SEC.

If the PAC 10 manages to get all of the 6 universities to join the conference, we would have a 16 team conference, and would most likely be having a PAC 16 championship game at the end of the year. We would see the new teams as early as the 2012 season.
