Pookalam Gets Into the Limca Book of World Records!
150 children created the world’s largest Pookalam, making it into the Limca Book of World Records. The Pookalam’s measurements came in at 14,400 square feet, and according to India Server dot com, the Pookalam was created with 12.5 tons of fresh flowers. ThatsFamous.com reports that the 150 children who worked on the flower-filled design, worked for 3 hours before finally completing the project. We have been looking for a picture of the Pookalam, but thus far, haven’t been able to find one.
The children were supported by Goonj, a Delhi-based Non Governmental Organization, along with 40 Whirlpool employees (ThatsFamous.com). The site noted that the Pookalam was created while officials from the Limca Book of World Records were there to witness the creation. The Pookalam has since then been entered into the Limca Book of World Records.
If you’re unfamiliar with Pookalam, it’s an art design created by flowers on the ground, to make a floral masterpiece. The art is used by the people from Kerala to celebrate the Onam festival, which is 10 days long. The Onam festival is a harvest festival that comes during the first month of the Malayalam calendar (Wikipedia).
